  2.                  SOUND BLASTER PRO  LATEST INFORMATION

  5. 1.  INSTALLATION
  6.  
  7. A hard disk is required for Sound Blaster Pro software installation.
  8. The installation  is  done by  executing the  hard disk installation
  9. program,  INST-HD.EXE found  on the diskette labeled  "Sound Blaster
  10. Pro Disk #1". The files on the distribution diskettes are compressed.
  11. INST-HD.EXE and LHARC.EXE will expand them into your hard disk.
  12.  
  13. INST-HD.EXE  installs  the  Sound  Blaster Pro  software  under  the
  14. directory, \SBPRO.  Several subdirectories are automatically created
  15. under this directory.
  16.  
  17. To begin the installation, follow these steps:
  18.  
  19. (Assuming you are using floppy drive A and hard disk drive C)
  20.  
  21.         1.  Place  the distribution diskette labeled  "Sound Blaster
  22.             Pro Disk #1" in Drive A and change to Drive A:
  23.  
  24.         2.  Type INST-HD C: and press Enter.
  25.  
  26.  
  27. If  you decide  to expand  the  files  manually,  run the  LHARC.EXE
  28. program  (found on the "Sound Blaster Pro Disk #1" disk) on any .LZH
  29. file. For example, to expand INST-DRV.EXE from the  PROGRAM.LZH file
  30. on Drive A, type:
  31.  
  32.         LHARC x A:PROGRAM.LZH INST-DRV.EXE
  33.  
  34. This places INST-DRV.EXE onto the current drive or directory (assumes
  35. LHARC.EXE is already in the current drive or directory).
  36.  
  37. INST-HD.EXE automatically inserts the  SOUND and  BLASTER environment
  38. settings into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  43. 2.  PACKAGE CONTENTS

  45. The Sound Blaster Pro software package contains:

  47.     -  Four 5.25"  360K diskettes
  48.             - Sound Blaster Pro Disk #1

  137. 3. SET SOUND BLASTER PRO VOLUME
  138.  
  139. A batch file, SETVOL.BAT  located on the \SBPRO directory is provided
  140. to set the volume level of the Sound Blaster Pro. Run this batch file
  141. to ensure that your Sound Blaster Pro volume is set to mid range.

  145. 4. SBSIM SUPPORT FOR MIDI
  146.  
  147. SBSIM (SB Simplified Interface Module) has now been updated to include
  148. support for the MIDI driver SBMIDI. To make use of the MIDI support,
  149. include a new section titled [MIDI] in your configuration file. The
  150. available keywords, and their default values, are as follows:
  151.  
  152.     [Midi]
  153.         BufferSize=32           ; Specifies the size of the buffer
  154.                                 ;   to allocate for MIDI files, in
  155.                                 ;   Kbytes
  156.         MidiMap=0               ; Specifies the type of MIDI file
  157.                                 ;   to be played:
  158.                                 ;       0 = General MIDI files
  159.                                 ;       1 = Basic MIDI files
  160.                                 ;       2 = Extended MIDI files
  161.                                 ;   Note that types 1 and 2 are as
  162.                                 ;   defined in Multimedia Windows.

  164. Note that you need to load SBMIDI (the Sound Blaster MIDI driver)
  165. before you invoke SBSIM.

  168. The Music player program, MUSIC.EXE, has also been updated to play
  169. MIDI files. The command set is the same, except that the commands
  170. /REPEAT, /TEMPO, /TRANSPOSE and /WAIT are not available when playing
  171. MIDI files. Also, a new command is implemented to allow switching
  172. of MIDI modes.

  174. The resulting command set of MUSIC.EXE is as follows:

  197. 5. MIDI FILES
  198.  
  199.    The MIDI files in PLAYMIDI sub-directory are following the format
  200.    of  Windows with Multimedia Extension. They contain the Basic and
  201.    Extended MIDI information. Therefore, you have to use the  /FMT
  202.    switch when you play these MIDI files. For example:
  203.  
  204.        PLAYMIDI   Midifile  /FMT:Extended
  205.    or  PLAYMIDI   Midifile  /FMT:Basic.

  207.    Refer to the manual for more information on MIDI file format.
